Reports have been circulating that BLM announced at the National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board meeting in Phoenix that they were canceling this summer's roundups.
It isn't exactly true.
What BLM explained it was doing was canceling two burro roundups, one for technical reasons and the other because the agency was short on funds and the gather wasn't a high priority.
What BLM also said was that if the Senate didn't keep $12 million in appropriations for BLM in its version of the federal budget bill, that the Bureau wouldn't be able to conduct any roundups except for emergencies.
This was simply an "if - then" kind of statement, most likely intended to remind Congress that it can't work without money.
