Wild Horses Missing from Burns Corrals

RUMOR SURFACE DATE: 01/06/05

SOURCE: Miscellaneous forwarded emails. Unable to determine original source.

CONTENT: Older studs have reportedly disappeared from the BLM corrals in Oregon sometime during the past few days.

STATUS: FALSE

AUTHENTICATION: Bart Russell, Special Agent, BLM, Moore, OK.

STATEMENT:

There are no BLM horses or burros currently scheduled to be sold under this new law.

There is no internal plan in place at this time to handle these type sales.

The law was passed, but came with no way to implement it, this will take some time. In the meanwhile some older horses will not be offered for adoption until a procedure is developed that complies with the new law.

There are about 8,000+- head of horses that meet the profile of 10 and older and have been to three adoptions.

The BLM adoption method is still the only legal way that untitled BLM freeze branded horses are getting into the hands of the public.
