Wild Horse Mentor Vicki Strykowski received reports from people believing hearing rumors of wild horses being "sold" in larger than usual quantities in Nevada. She referred the rumor to Rumor Control.
STATUS: False
Per Sally Spencer, BLM National WHB Program Office:
"There was an adoption at our Palomino Valley Facility on October 16, 2004. The wild horses available for adoption did have a lot of color. They were from the Diamonds, Little Owhyee, Fish Creek and Rock Creek. One gentleman adopted three horses, and as is usual for our adoptions, the starting price was $125.
"The only other event that has occurred in the Reno area was this past weekend's Warm Springs adoption. Six BLM horses and six Virginia Range Estrays were adopted.
"There haven't been any sales to date, and for now, when a sale does occur it will be arranged by the national point of contact. Another thing that needs to be continually stressed is that there will be no (sale authority) sales at adoption events."
